Today I want to share some of my favorite healthy meals. Eating healthy can be boring and discouraging. Most people assume eating healthier means lettuce and tomatoes, raw carrots and celery sticks. Perhaps even a yogurt or diet coke for lunch with a rice cake might work for some people. Well, I’m not “some people” folks and I’d rather live than starve myself. First of all, I choose to eat what I like. My favorite foods as I like to call it. Fresh greens and legumes, baked whole carrots and cauliflower. Nuts and seeds, natural sweets and savory dishes. Such as a thyme-honey lemon glazed lamb chops cooked to a perfect medium-rare. A whole rosemary-lemon rubbed baked chicken. Slowly roasted of course. I would eat it whole like a caveman. #barehands.
Some of my favorite healthy meals may also be found in a well stuffed whole wheat wrap. Lots of spinach, bean sprouts, cucumber, shaved carrots tomato and mint. Perhaps with a lamb patty with low-fat plain yogurt with lemon and tahini. A veggie burger made of shaved ruby beets with carrots, sprouts, cilantro, garbanzo and a zingy ginger-miso dressing. And yes in between a perfect toasted brioche bun. Brown Rice bowl topped with beef peccadillo, chopped veggies, and a poached egg. I love stuffed baked peppers as well. It is endless folks. Some might say well, you’re and experienced chef and foodie so it comes easier to you. It may seem that way. All you need is the love for food. Be a little creative and a bit more passionate. Imagine you’re favorite foods you love to eat. Now, picture those dishes without the sugar. Without the glutes, the breading, the deep frying. You can make a great pasta dish and take away the heavy cream or the bechamel sauce. Who eats that way anyway? Bacon, bacon, bacon. Garlic, garlic, garlic. Grab the wine and go for it.
I found ways of preparing some of my favorite healthy meals by starting with simple, basic and healthier choices. It will be challenging at first, but your body will gradually adjust to eating this way. I’m not saying it will be easy, nor am I saying I have all the answers. But, you will feel better about yourself. Imagine not feeling bloated after a meal, due to what is in the food. #youarewhatyoueat. You will feel satisfy without overloading your plate more than once. Look at it as a healthier way of living. Going through your days feeling great and lighter. Now if you can throw a little bit of fitness to this pot and stir it all together, then you have a great recipe for a clean and healthier new you.
I am not a nutritionist or by far suggesting I have all the answers. What I am sharing with you is my experience and how it’s made me feel. We once were cave-man and cave-woman and we hunted, fished, ate and lived off the land. Why not keep the same concept today and eat cleaner, fresh and healthier. Now, i know we all cheat, including myself. We sometimes can not resist. It is in our DNA. At least cheat once or twice on the weekends and eat clean and healthier during the full week. Definitely, combine fitness with your weekly routine. Then you will not feel so guilty enjoying a great ridiculous and juicy loaded burger on the weekend.
